The 91st Annual National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Ghana, which also commemorates the centenary of the Community in the country opened at Baghe Ahmad at Pomadze, near Winneba, in the Gomoa Central district of the Central Region.
The initiation of Ghanaians into Islam Ahmadiyyat by Maulvi Abdur Raheem Nayyar, the pioneer missionary sent from Qadian at the request of the Ghanaians, took place at Ekrawfo in 1921.
Opening the Convention, the Ameer and Missionary-in-Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Maulana Noor Muhammad Bin Salih, paid glowing tribute to the pioneer missionaries who nurtured Ahmadiyyat to grow into what it has become today.
He said Ahmadiyyat in Ghana had achieved successes among which is the establishment of over 300 schools throughout the country which halted the practice under which Muslim pupils and students were identified, targeted, and compulsorily turned into Christians by changing their Muslim names to that of Christian. He said the Community was very grateful to Allah for the many feats it had chalked in many spheres during the last 100 years of its existence.
Provision of water
The Ameer highlighted at the 91st Annual National Convention that through the Water for Life scheme, the community has provided good drinking water to many under-served communities with water challenges.
Health
Maulana Noor Bin Salih said, that through the jama’at’s health scheme, the Ahmadiyya community continues to prioritize the health of citizens by providing healthcare facilities for the benefit of all especially in areas often described as hard to reach and other such initiatives that improve on the well-being of the people.
Intolerance among faiths
Ameer Maulana Noor Bin Salih expressed his dissatisfaction with comments and utterances by some adherents of the Christian faith who exhibit acts of hatred towards Muslims.
Maulana Bin Salih intimated, that, ‘’it is time to disown both inter and intra religious animosities of condemning each other’’. He asked Muslims to eschew acts of vandalism, mob action, and hooliganism.
Maulana Bin Salih appealed to Muslim youths not to stoop so low for politicians to use them as vigilantes to cause mayhem in society, but rather, portray the beauty and tolerance of Islam to these politicians who approach them to be at each other’s throat as the prophet Muhammad said ‘’A Muslim is a mirror to the other Muslim’’ thus Muslims should live lives worthy of emulation by all.
